Comprehensive Developmental
Assessment
Evaluates each child's individual abilities and health care needs.
Physical and Occupational Therapy
Assists children in
reaching motor milestones (sitting, crawling, walking, reaching,
grasping) as well as functional skills such as dressing and
eating. Specialized equipment and environmental adaptations
may be provided, such as custom seating or orthotics.Speech and Language Therapy
Develops and enhances communication skills through spoken or sign language, picture exchange, computers and other communication devices.
Special Education
Enhances
children's cognitive and social development. We support the
parent-child relationship, create safe and secure learning
environments, and provide opportunities for children to socialize
with their peers. Children develop
self-confidence, independence, and the foundations for all future
learning.
Family Counseling
Supports
families facing the emotional impact and unique challenges of
parenting a child with special health care needs. Licensed
family therapists provide counseling, facilitate group programs, and
collaborate with treatment teams to promote healthy family
relationships.
Nutrition/Feeding Team
Evaluates
and treats the nutritional and feeding difficulties of children ages
birth to five years.
Integrated Spanish Programs
Through our integrated Spanish Programs, Kindering
Center's bilingual educators and therapists provide Spanish-speaking
families in our community with the resources they need to ensure
each child reaches his/her full potential at a time when early
education and intervention have the greatest and most lasting
impact. Services include: comprehensive developmental assessments;
Early Intervention therapies and special education; co-op preschool
class; case management services; Parenting Plus parent education
courses; and Circulo de Mamas support group for Spanish-speaking
mothers.
CHERISH
Addresses the needs of the vulnerable population of young children
in foster and kinship care. Through assessments and
interventions, CHERISH assists foster and kinship parents with the
attachment cycle, guides each caregiver-child pair through the
process of developing this important early bond and provides
developmental therapies and early education.
Parenting Plus
Provides free, multi-lingual parenting education courses for families who may be experiencing difficulties
. Monthly support groups are available to program graduates.
Parent Library
Lends books on a range of topics related to children with special needs.
Fathers
Network
Provides
male peer support, resources and education, father-child interaction
sessions, and family social occasions. Focus is on helping fathers
become more competent and compassionate caregivers for their children with
special needs. Produces a newsletter, magazine column, videos,
and national speakers.
Mothers' Circle
Mothers’ Circle is a support group supporting a community of women
raising children 0-6y with special needs; sharing emotional
support, promoting advocacy, and creating solutions. Mothers’ Circle
is open to current Kindering Center moms and to mothers in the
greater community. The group, facilitated by a family therapist, is
offered every other week in the evening; childcare is provided.
Bridging the Gap
A community of women raising children 6 years and older with special
needs; sharing resources, emotional support, networking, promoting
advocacy, and creating connections.
Child Care Consultation Program
Assists
children birth - six years of age, families, and child care
providers. Kindering Center consultants provide
free, on-site visits to child care programs in order to observe
children, conduct development screenings, consult with child care
staff and parents, make appropriate referrals as needed, and develop
strategies in order to ensure and support all children's successes
in child care. We offer free,
STARS-approved training and support individualized to the unique
needs of providers.
Sibshops
Sibshops are a
lively, action-packed, three hour workshop that celebrate the many
contributions made by brothers and sisters of kids with special
needs. Siblings, ages 6 to 9 years of age meet as a group every other month at Kindering Center. It is an
opportunity for siblings to meet other siblings and learn about
special needs and understand that they are not alone. This group
welcomes Kindering Center families and families in the greater
community.
Family Resources
Links families with appropriate community resources; helps with funding and eligibility requirements; coordinates services.
CUBS
(Communication, Understanding, Behaviors, and Socialization)
Combines
a high-quality early intervention program, extended instruction
time, technical and social support for families, collaboration
across services, and transition support for children with autism.
