When I was a little girl, I was afraid of
everything! I felt anxious around new people, the first day of
school terrified me, and I thought the doctor would surely hurt
me! Every day was a challenge.
My mom gave me hope.
Understanding my fear, she gave me a stuffed lion and we named it Courage.
She told me to keep him with me when facing something that
frightened me. She promised that he would help me through
anything...and it worked! Courage has helped me face many
challenges. He helped when I broke my arm and helped me
through the pain of my parents' divorce. I even took him to
college! By my side, Courage has been through every major life
experience I've faced. I've given Courage to others to help
them through rough times too. Courage has accompanied my
friends on airplanes, on interviews - it's even been tucked away on
a first date!
Courage is now with a dear
friend who is battling a brain tumor (and winning!). At 31
years of age, he holds this tattered but loved lion close at every
doctor's visit.
My little lion helped me find my
Courage many years ago. Now my fearless friend is doing the
same for others. I'm glad to share him with you.
